Travis Rice Wins 2007 US Open, Another Magne-Traction Victory!
In harsh riding conditions generated by driving snow, Travis Rice killed today’s Slopestyle contest to win his first ever title win at the TTR SIX(6)STAR 25th Burton US Open Snowboard Championships.
In a best of 3-runs format, Travis Rice threw down a solid frontside boardslide on the first rail, to a backside 720 Japan air, frontside 720 melon grab, backside rodeo 720 nose-grab, switch backside 180 and a front boardslide-to-270-off on the final rail to earn himself the contest title and 1250 TTR Ranking Points – 1000pts plus banked 25% - to pop him directly into the TTR World Nr 4 spot and become a serious contender for the Men’s TTR World Snowboard Tour 06/07 Champion crown.
“I’ve been competing at the US Open since 1998,” said Travis Rice. “My mom brought me when I was 15, and it was the first time I saw the pros compete in person. So I’m stoked to win my first US Open slopestyle title. It was definitely tough conditions out there for us gladiators, so I’m glad we made it through it.”

Rice competed in halfpipe and made finals. It was his first day in the pipe this season. He destroyed it and then separated his shoulder, pretty mellow out for a week, he placed 14th in the pipe with the run he fell on.
Big air was canceled due to crappy weather.

Coldsmoke Powder Festival
Photos: Chris Ankeny
The Coldsmoke Powder Festival was held on the perfect weekend. Armed with fresh Narrow Ass Snowboards and American Beer in cans, we arrived two days after the "Day". Conditions were great, and so was the event. It is a gathering of the tribes for ski mountaineers, powder pigs, and old school heavies. Clinics are held, demo days, dinner, movies, and powder riding plus. Most of the terrain on the topside of Whitewater is real. I was so stoked to have the 188's underfoot. I love the consistency of the magne-traction turn. Here are some pictures of Rene and I getting some NAS up north. Don't tell anyone! Cool. Thanks Chris, Dan and Rene.

Hungry Like the Canis Lupus, Mike Fox Wins on TRS Magne-Traction!
![canis07[3].jpg](http://www.libtechblogs.com/pics/canis07%5B3%5D.jpg)
Words and Photos by Brian Craighill
On Saturday March 10th, seventy hungry savages gathered at The Canyons Resort in Park City, UT for the annual Quiksilver Canis Lupus Challenge. For those who are unfamiliar, The Canis Lupus is a mile long, natural halfpipe-like run complete with banked walls, fallen trees, rocks, and natural “whoops” down the whole thing. This is a serious race. One slight mistake could send you into a wall, tree or if you’re lucky down onto the hard packed snow on which you race over…Harsh.
Despite the consequences, the racer list was 70 deep, and they were all hungry for cash and prizes. Up for grabs this year was new Lib Tech and Roxy snowboards, Lib Tech NAS (narrow ass snowboards), Quiksilver clothes, and $2000 to be split by the fastest Snowboarder, and fastest skier. When it was all said and done, Kevin Brower and Mike Fox (2nd place last year) made it down in the shortest amount of time and took home the cash.
Thank you to the Canyons Resort, Lib Tech, and all of the competitors who came out this year to risk their lives.
