My spring surf and fish trip to Panama.
Rooster Fish
Just wanted to share a few shots from my spring surf and fish trip to Panama. We just rented a car and cruzed all over the place looking for good waves and fun places to fish. We found some fun waves, but there doesn't seem to be any real super perfect point breaks down there. Every wave has it's days though. Best surf we found was on the Pacific side. Checked all the usual spots and even found some secrets.

Panama is super beautiful. Much of it is still frontier. It can be a bit sketch for a couple gringos, but that's half the fun. We were able to camp out much of the time. Beers were around a dollar and food was cheap too. There's lots of fish in the country and i tried to catch as many as i could. Got some Tuna, Skip Jack, Big Eye Jack, Roosters, Dorado, Markrel, Corvina, Peacock bass, snook and other i don't know what they were. Had fish for dinner as many nights as possible.

Grenade Games 4 – June Mountain
Ramblings by Krush
It’s April 18…winter won’t quit in the Northwest…Seattle is preparing for snowfall…I’m tired of plowing my driveway…fourth annual Grenade Games going on at June…fuckit’…let’s get some sunshine.
Photos by, Andrew Miller, George Crosland at SNOWREV.COM. and the BFG.
So we got the sunshine…but also cold temps and a shit-ton of wind. It wasn’t windy at Whiskey Creek though, where Mervin webmonkey Trevor Phillips, Geoff from the Summit at Snoqualmie and the rest of the Grenerds and I threw back an entire army of white Russians. I then proceeded to not remember any part of the rest of the evening.
We made it to the lifts sometime after 2pm on Saturday and bumped into fellow late arriving NW shred Corey Noble in the parking lot and made it to base camp where we proceeded to eat undercooked e-coli burgers and nurse lingering hangovers. The highlight of the day was the Chinese Eyed Downhill. I’d say around 70 half-ripped nutbags starting from the top of the summit chair and pointed it straight down Deer Bowl. They came crashing through a late addition safety fence with some skier in the lead and mere feet away from collecting the $500 purse when Thor flies up on a Skunkape, boardslides over the dude, shotguns a can of Monster Energy Swill and takes the cash…fucking brilliant.
Chinese Eyed Downhill, Photo Liam Gallagher TWS
A little advice to any future Grenade Games attendees…when you get your rental car, make sure the damn thing has license plates…ours was brand new and didn’t have the plates yet…I asked the dude at Enterprise and he was all “no-problem…it’s totally legal”. Legal yes…but it’s also screaming to be pulled over when you run the uber-nazi-cop-gauntlet called highway 395 and June Lakes road. Two days, twice pulled over by a total of seven cars…no tickets. Final box score Washington shreds 2, Johnny Law 0.
Later than night at Whiskey Creek some douche-bag jacked by hoodie and I ended up freezing my ass off walking back to our hotel…thanks dick.
Sunday was pipe day…both kinds. Props to Nate Farrell and Pat Bridges who hiked the u-ditch all day long. Nate with a bunch of head and a half high airs and spins while rocking a sweet poncho and the “eYe” for putting on another handplant seminar on the metal eyeballs that lined the pipe…how appropriate. Luke Mitrani went huge and won the Boosted Air, Chas Guldemond was killing it and Danny hit it a few times for good measure. Shawn Farmer and Terry Kidwell’s band THC played a bitchin’ set that apparently only Bridges and I were stoked on…fuck all you guys…know your metal and know your roots…the Fizz has an open invite to play any event I ever throw…”Going Postal” fucking rips. The day finished off with the mogul course…it was actually just a bunch of ice and chunder with a Zumiez couch in the middle. This thing was borderline impossible if you had bindings on…but no-boading while drunk dudes huck snowballs at your face and crotch…no chance. One dude t-boned the Zumiez couch so hard I thought he was dead. Shit was funny as hell.
Nate Farrell mid spin over the EYE ball.
We pussed out on the closing party and ended up eating pizza, drinking rum and watching the Rock of Love II Reunion show on VH1 before waking before dawn to catch an early flight out of Reno…back at the Summit we have 15 feet of base, it’s still snowing and the cops are all at Starbucks…and my driveway needs plowing.

Thanks to Danny, Shiff, Cassillo and all those for putting on a great event…Seacrest out.

B.C. Bananas
Hey Boys-
Good on ya once again! The banana has proven itself in the big mtns...its all I want to ride! Self surfacing nose, lightning quick edge response, and general soaring marks on fun factor. Holds great edge at speed and helps to keep from going over the bars on landings. And blown away how good it is on hardpack, wow, who would of thought? Would REALLY like to see a longer board with nana, actually think all your boards should be transformed (as maybe you do as well). For me personally, a TRS 67 with banana and magne will be the ultimate of boards, it will dominate the big mtns hands down.
Thanks for making snowboarding even more fun and keeping me stoked over the years!!
cheers-
Chris Ankeny

Bananas going for Dracula!!!
Martin and Jakob
Photo: Florent DUCASSE
Second week of January the TRS Banana crew - Jakob Wilhelmson & myself - Martin Cernik decided visit Dracula's land. I'm involved in the Heliboarding project over there, setting up together with Berghill.ro new heli operator in Fagaras Mountains, the nicest part of Carpatians. Mtns…We ad into crew another Bannana junkie Matus Hubka - Slovakian ripper and French toast Emeric Front, our buddy from Quiksilver team.
Cernik and Matus Hubka
Our trip started great, due bad weather landing in totally different city and spending 6 hours in the van to reach our final destination - Fagaras. Fagaras is located near bigger and very nice city called Sibiu, which is full of nice buildings, bars, drinks and ladies.
However our target was the beautiful white peaks and discovering some new lines. We stayed at the fish farm just bellow the mountains, in very nice and new hotel. The heli was parked just next to it, so the set up was perfect. There we've met with Austrian Alpine legend and great Big Mountain rider Martin Freinandemetz. Our crew was ready to rock the spot…Flying for 4 days, hitting unexplored terrains.
Matus
Photo: Florent DUCASSE
Every run was pretty much first descent, since there was never heliboarding before and believe it or not, The terrain is incredible. You can find mellow tourist runs, places to build jumps, cliffs and gnarly steeps. It is a good mix of NZ and AK in the middle of Europe and believe it or not, Nothing is better than using your banana in the backcountry to do first descent!!!

After on the down day, we went for cultural studies. We visited Dracula's castle, checked his bedroom…pretty sketchy, He must have been pretty small dude, coz the ceilings are very low. Otherwise the castle is super nice and it is for sale at the moment. We also went to check quality of local alcohol and bars..as the rest of eastern Europe it rock's - no ID bullshit, no security and drinking supervisors, everyone is just cruising and watching local hot chicks showing down some awesome dancing skills.

This trip was totally awesome - just everything went smooth and nice. I recommend this place to every rider with Passport, because it gives you memories never to be forgotten.

North West Regional Ripper Andy Bergin-Sperry seen banana blasting at this years Holy Oly Revival.
Name- Andy Bergin-Sperry
Age- 18
Hometown- Lakewood Washington
College- Central Washington University
Home mountain- Crystal/ Summit at Snoqualmie
Goofy or Reg- Goofy
Favorite trick- BS 180s
How was the Holy Oly this year?
Every year I have done Holy Oly it has been rad! Even though we didn't get to take pow turns into the QP like last year I definitely enjoyed the sun this year. This year was sick though with huge QP, Smiles, and everyone throwing down! And thanks to my parents and friends for coming out and checking out Holy Oly!
Photo: Ed Herbold
What are u learning about in college?
I am learning all that school whatnot... But more importantly I'm learning about this whole LIFE thing. The Dorms are an amazing experience, I love them but I can't wait to get a house or apartment next year. In the dorms you get hucked into the same building with every personality of person you can imagine and are forced to learn to live with them. I have learned how to keep the RA's away when taking care of your buddy who is puking there brains out in the bathroom haha. This year has been all about balance, It's hard to do the whole snowboarding thing and college at the same time but I'm figuring it out. There also is not any magic money machine aka parents to hook it up with that extra cash for little things. This year has been a roller coaster and college is sick!
What do u do in Ellensberg for fun?
Well its Ellensberg there is not a ton to do for fun but were making it rock. Lots of Nentendo 64 Mario cart and trying to stay out of trouble. We also got a pretty dope jib set up like 5 minutes from campus.
Any rad trips for the rest of this season?
I am road trippin to Northstar this month with a group of guys from central to Redbull's Snowarz for a college competition, I come back for like a week at school then hop on a plane down to Mammoth for the Peanut Butter Rail Jam finals. Whistler and Hood this summer. Get stoked!!
What Lib Board do you ride?
I am on a 156 Skate Banana for everything and a 154 TRS Banana for park.
Has banana technology elevated your snowboarding level?
Hell yeah! Banana technology is unreal! You just have so much control on a mag banana i love it. In the pow it floats like nothing elce and in the park you can just dull the crap out of your edges and still have a better edge then a normal sidecut. If you haven't got to try one you better hustle up and get on one. And its got a cool name!

Bluebird Skies, Pillows of Powder and Massive Airs Over Natural Obstacles Mark this Historic Day in Snowboarding

Jackson Hole's legendary Casper Bowl

Travis Rice BS 3 Drop
Jackson Hole, WY (February 6, 2008) - Quiksilver today announced that Travis Rice is the winner of the first-annual "Quiksilver Natural Selection: All Mountain Invitational." The final round of competition, staged at Jackson Hole's legendary Casper Bowl run, was held in sunny bluebird skies and pristine pow. Hundreds of spectators cheered each rider as they dropped from the top of the mountain into a field of soft, untracked snow and launched impossible airs over boulders and trees.

Mark Landvik
Rice was ecstatic after being announced the winner. He earned a check for $18,000 and the unqualified respect of his peers. Travis will be donating a portion of his prize money to the Jackson Hole search and rescue as well as other non-profit organizations in the community.

Sammy Luebke Monster Method, he placed 6th overall!
"Snowboarding is self expression," said Rice. "For me the true reward was seeing everyone walk away with smiles of optimism. After talking with the riders it seems as though we have only scratched the surface of a new era. It's nature that provides us with the most limitless canvas to challenge the way we ride."

Sammy Luebke
The top three winners received a custom painted bison skull, created by local artist Ryan Hayworth. Mark Landvik, who pulled a 720 to win the best trick award, received a snowmobile donated by DC Shoes. The total purse was $75,000 and all athletes were rewarded.

Mark Landvik BS 180
The event, which was actually the brainchild of Jackson Hole local Rice, has been the talk of the snowboard world because of the refreshing new format, the ideal setting and vibe, and the incredible array of talent from every part of the snowboard world who accepted the invitation to ride here.

Bryan Iguchi, yeah riding Gnu Altererd Banana Genetics
"Pipe guys, free riders, and legends all came together because of this event," said Brian Craighill, Quiksilver Snow Team Manager. "It was incredible to watch and extremely rewarding to be a part of this event."

Travis Rice
Over the two competition days, more than 20 cameras and a 2,000-foot cable cam captured the event in high definition under the direction of innovative filmmaker Curtis Morgan. Journalists from around the world also gathered here to experience it, and Fuel TV was on hand to record it for later broadcast.
"After Travis dreamed up this contest, I knew it would be a logistical nightmare; I had to figure out how we'd capture the action with the same intensity and artistry that the riders would bring," said Morgan. "Our approach wasn't just to cover an event, it was to bring the spectacle alive in a way that has never been seen before, in true cinematic proportion. In the end, we proved it's possible and produced the first HD broadcast on real terrain with real riders."

Skate Banana
My wife bought me a 159 skate banana for Christmas. I'm 36, 6' 1", 200lbs. and I just got back into riding about 5 years ago after taking a 7 year break. After getting back into it, I bought a Ride Prophet. Tail was too stiff, nose was too soft. I then bought a Lib Teck Emma Peel wide. Too soft overall. I then bought a 168 Ride Yukon. Too wide but I liked it overall. I just rode my skate banana for the first time with a 23" stance and rode it all day. I brought my other boards to the mountain just in case but never even looked at them. I rode in the park, in powder until it was gone and then on ice. The board just works. It's just right. I'm also really happy that it's made in the USA.
Sincerely,
Daryl

By: Red Bull Nanshan Open
Beijing, China – It was full-out action here in The Nokia Nanshan Mellow Park as the top eleven rider’s from yesterday’s qualifier converged for combat. The park was fresh, the riders were stoked and the crowd was larger than ever before. Jakob Wilhelmson of Sweden took first on the podium of the 6th Red Bull Nanshan Open, earning himself his first Swatch TTR result of the season, and 700 Ranking Points.
Aside from a small amount of wind in the morning, the weather was great with blue skies and a spring-like temperature. The riders had a tough time in the Finals due to the conditions, causing an upset and knocking out our top pick for first, Freddy Austbo (NOR), in the first round.
It came down to four riders in the super finals where the wind was a little lighter and the competition was tight. Returning rider Jakob Wilhelmson (SWE) hit both big kickers in his first run with smooth 7’s and 5’s, going big and standing out for the judges. It was so close! No one could have predicted Marc Swoboda (AUT) would be the runner up. Marc’s run consisted of a BS 7 Japan and a FS 5. Third went to Atsuchi Ishikawa from Japan who was killing it all weekend. A returning to the Nanshan Open, Atsuchi took it to the park with huge switch FS 7’s and 9’s. So stoked to have our Asian brother on the podium! Jake Koia (NZE) followed in fourth position representing the southern hemisphere.
Three-time DMC Champion DJ Wordy was on the snow all day spinning his tunes for the crowd and getting the onlookers stoked. So much more excitement followed with a live punk show by national punk treasures SKO and Recycle on the Gibson stage. Free Red Bull flowed like water and good times were had by all. Thanks to everyone who came from near and far for the event and high fives to everyone who helped out.
The 6th Red Bull Nanshan Open is brought to you in part by Quiksilver and Gibson guitars. For more information on The 6th Red Bull Nanshan Open, please visit www.mellowparks.cn.

T-RICE VICTORIOUS AT SIX(6) STAR NISSAN X-TRAIL JAM

By: TTR press office
The young guns were unable to hold off Travis Rice (USA) in the land of the rising sun as he blew away all contenders with jaw-dropping maneuvers that sent the entire Tokyo Dome of 35 000 spectators into a cheering frenzy. His combined results from the Quarterpipe and the Big Air landed him the Title, earning him 1000 Swatch TTR ranking points alongside a large portion of the $150 000 USD prize purse. There was not an empty seat in the house for both formats, each showcasing incredible talent from top international riders while Japanese riders spiced things up on their home turf.
Travis Rice (USA), Kevin Pearce (USA) and Andy Finch (USA) stood atop the podium after the quarterpipe throw down on Saturday. The playing field saw a big change for the big air as Risto Mattila (FIN) stomped his FS 1080 tail grab to beat out Rice who finished 2nd, and Mathieu Crepel (FRA) who placed 3rd. The combined results of both formats determined the Swatch TTR SIX(6)STAR Nissan X-Trail Jam Title winner, as Travis Rice took the top spot, followed by Risto Mattila in 2nd, and Mathieu Crepel taking 3rd.
The crowd favourite was without a doubt, Travis Rice who landed three variations of a double cork during the night. “The atmosphere is so great here! Pat your neighbour on the back!” said Rice to an energetic stadium after the Big Air. “Man what a session, especially this kid Danny Davis on that last run.” 06/07 World Nr. 5 Danny Davis (USA) also brought his own version of a double cork to the table, impressing fans and riders alike, placing 5th overall.
Big changes in the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour rankings resulted from the battle in Japan with Travis adding 1000 Ranking points to his current standing, pushing him up to World Nr. 21. Risto Mattila now sits at World Nr. 20 and Mathieu Crepel has moved to World Nr. 23 respectively. Norwegian rookie Mikkel Bang, who dominated at last weeks Nokia Air & Style in Munich with a podium finish, felt it was worth it to skip school and fly to Japan. The ‘Bangster’ placed 9th overall and has moved up to World Nr. 6 as Andy Finch, despite his huge air and 3rd place Quarterpipe finish, sits two below as World Nr. 8.
The battle for Tour lead was close between Kevin Pearce and Torstein Horgmo (NOR). Pearce was favoured to do well as previous SIX(6) STAR Nokia Air & Style 07 and FIVE(5)STAR Oakley Arctic Challenge 07 Title winner, but a victory in Japan was not in the cards as his overall result was not enough to overtake Horgmo in the rankings. Pearce finished 4th overall with Horgmo taking 6th, but Horgmo maintains his hold as Swatch TTR World Nr. 1. Pearce currently sits at World Nr. 2 at just 30.9 points shy of Horgmo.
Not to be ignored, the Japanese riders were a force to be reckoned at this season’s Nissan X-Trail Jam with local Daisuke Murakami laying down the biggest quarterpipe air, hitting the 6m mark. Takaharu Nakai was the best Japanese rider last year and this time around he continued to show his supremacy of the east, finishing fourth in the quarterpipe on Saturday and 7th overall in front of 3 international super stars including German rider David Benedek.
The second Swatch TTR SIX(6)STAR event of the 07/08 season proved just how unpredictable things can be on the tour. Make sure to check out all the latest coverage of the Nissan X-Trail Jam including a TTR news blog covering each format in detail along with special video content of the best runs and rider interviews, all on www.ttrworldtour.com.
The Men’s tour takes a break as the women step up to compete in the all-female SIX(6) STAR Roxy Chicken Jam in Kaprun, Austria next weekend. The Men’s Tour will be back in full-swing on Janurary 2nd with the SIX(6) STAR O’Neill Evolution in Davos, Switzerland.

Bluebird Baker

Mt Baker opened yesterday with bluebird and pow.

Most WA shred locals made it out for the first baker day and were glad it was not the industry junk show like last season's opener.

It was a powder day for sure, some areas were low tide, but with jedi skills u could float the rocks and trees for the most part.

More snow is on the way and the other resorts are opening soon so get out there and enjoy, say hi to Faye.

Fathead Travis
Fathead, the fast-growing sports and entertainment brand best-known for its life-size wall graphics is expanding its Action Sports Line, just as fast as AST Dew Tour is expanding across the world. Fathead now can add Snow to its product categories in Action Sports in addition to Motocross, BMX, and Skate.
The Fathead Action Sports athlete roster includes Travis Pastrana and Chad Reed(Motocross), Dave Mirra and Ryan Nyquist(BMX), Ryan Sheckler and Paul Rodriguez(Skate) and Travis Rice (Snow). “I’ve always been a fan of Fathead, and was stoked when the opportunity was presented to have a Fathead featuring me in action” Travis Rice. “Since snowboarding is seasonal, I hope my Fathead serves as inspiration on fellow snowboarders walls to keep them fired up and focused on snowboarding year-round.”
“Frontside 720 melon grab or backside rodeo 720; no matter what trick Travis is performing they are sick,” Brock Weatherup, CEO, Fathead. “This relationship could not have been forged at a more perfect time. Travis will now be able to straight jump to fan’s walls and just in time for the holidays, but more importantly the winter games.”
Fathead’s stellar all- star roster can be purchased on the company’s Web site; www. Fathead.com or by calling (877)-FATHEAD where over 400 of the best sports and entertainment images can be found.
A “Fathead” is a bold, colorful, life-size wall graphic of sports and entertainment stars. The 3-D like vinyl graphics have a special adhesive backing that enables them to be moved from wall to wall.

Downtown Throwdown Rail Jam
The Downtown Throwdown went off! Many of the riders said it was the best pre-season jib contest they have ever done. There were no pesky stairs to injure riders so the level of boarding was out of control.
Photo: G Trev
Lib Tech's own Sammy Luebke even came out to test his banana on the jibs. His presses were nice, "3rd gear" one might say.
Photo: G Trev
The session was so heated my brain almost exploded especially with the top three riders Ben Bogart, Johnny Miller, and Jed Anderson. It was just trick after trick after trick with these guys. Jed ended up taking it with next level moves and almost perfect consistency. All the riders killed it and the celebrity judges Zach Leach, Sean Genovese, and Jon Kooley made difficult but good calls.
Thanks to Snowboy Productions, Boarderline Bellevue and all the other sponsors for making it happen here in the Northwest! -JB
RESULTS:
1st – Jed Anderson
2nd – Johnny Miller
3rd – Ben Bogart
Best Trick – Nick Visconti
